The use of the Helparm is generally limited to occupational therapy and physiotherapy in clinics, practices, and therapy facilities. It can be used unilaterally or bilaterally, and the counterweights on each side can be individually adjusted.
Due to the center-shifted center of gravity, the device offers good stability combined with sufficient rear accessibility for wheelchairs. The entry width is 80 cm.
The Helparm is supplied with synchronous coupling. This causes the healthy arm to passively move the affected arm. The patient tries to hold the arm in a specific position while the healthy arm reduces support for the affected arm by pressing down. Keyword: placing exercises. The synchronous coupling is fixed with the fixation weights. Usually, additional weights need to be added on top of the fixation weights.
Function:
The Nitzbon Helparm reduces the arm’s weight through counterweights. Minimal functional capabilities in the shoulder-arm area can thus be used more effectively.
The cord guides can be adjusted for any desired direction of movement. Movements can be performed in all planes. The suspension is variable for forearm and upper arm. The arm can be guided in either a double or single loop.
Indications:
Shoulder-Arm Syndrome (PHS)
Chronic Polyarthritis
Tetraplegia
Multiple Sclerosis
Muscular Dystrophy, among others
Therapeutic applications:
Relief and loosening of shoulder and upper arm muscles during functional exercises
Strengthening severely weakened muscles
Improvement of movement coordination
Relief of shoulder and upper arm muscles during hand therapy and activities of daily living
Mobilization of shoulder girdle and arm joints (e.g., in osteoarthritis and postoperative care)
Improvement of muscle endurance
Anti-inflammatory mobilization in cases of insertion tendinopathies of the rotator cuff muscles and other soft tissue infections of the shoulder
Reduction of protective postures through safe guidance of movements, activation of antagonist muscles, and limitation of movements
Pain reduction
Assistance for the therapist in passive and assisted shoulder mobilization
These applications are not strictly distinct from each other; for example, there are close interrelations between relief, loosening, pain reduction, coordination, and mobilization.
